Fixinc has supported Auckland War Memorial Museum for several years, working hand-in-hand with security and emergency teams to build a culture of resilience tailored to the unique challenges of one of New Zealand's most significant cultural sites.

## Program Details

**Start Date**: January 2023

**Services Used**:
- [Emergency Management](https://docs.fixinc.io/service/Emergency-Management.md): Core service for emergency response planning and coordination
- [Desktop Scenario Exercise](https://docs.fixinc.io/service/scenario-exercise.md): Core service for testing response capabilities
- [Validation Exercise](https://docs.fixinc.io/service/validation.md): Core service for verifying plan effectiveness
- [Business Continuity](https://docs.fixinc.io/service/business-continuity.md): Core service for operational resilience planning

## The Challenge

[Auckland War Memorial Museum](https://www.aucklandmuseum.com/) is more than a venue. It is a national landmark, a cultural and historical archive, and a public space often at the centre of high-attention civic events. With millions of dollars of artefacts and large visitor volumes, the museum's operations must balance public access with security, preservation, and risk management.

From planned protests to police presence and large-scale commemorations, the site is no stranger to complexity. While the Museum had existing [emergency management](https://docs.fixinc.io/service/Emergency-Management.md) protocols in place, the challenge was evolving these into a site-wide resilience programme that was both technically sound and culturally aware.

## The Approach

Fixinc was brought in to help guide this evolution, not by overhauling systems, but by building capacity from within. The approach was grounded in partnership and continuity. Fixinc worked closely with the security and emergency management teams to:

- Run tailored [Scenario Exercises](https://docs.fixinc.io/service/scenario-exercise.md) addressing both natural disasters and public disruption
- Deliver [Emergency Management Training](https://docs.fixinc.io/disciplines/emergency-management-training.md) that respected the heritage sensitivities of the site
- Support [Programme Reviews](https://docs.fixinc.io/disciplines/business-continuity-program-review-and-audit.md) to assess maturity and identify low-disruption improvements
- Explore [technology](https://docs.fixinc.io/technology.md) integration such as [Business Impact Analysis](https://docs.fixinc.io/technology/business-impact-analysis.md) tools and [F24](https://docs.fixinc.io/technology/f24.md) for long-term incident coordination

What made this programme different was the pace and depth. Rather than push for change, Fixinc listened first, learning the physical, operational, and symbolic nuances of the site before recommending adjustments. Training focused not just on process, but on situational judgement, cross-team trust, and public communication under pressure.

## The Outcome

Today, the Museum has a resilience programme that reflects the significance of its place in Aotearoa. Response plans are clearer. Teams are more engaged. The overall culture around safety, disruption readiness, and business continuity has matured steadily over time.

Technology discussions are now underway, grounded in the real operational needs of the site and the capabilities already embedded. Fixinc continues to support the Museum as a trusted partner, adapting the approach as the team evolves, and ensuring resilience becomes as much a part of the site's legacy as the exhibits it protects.
